Joyeux Noel...Feliz Navidad...Merry Christmas...

Posting will probably slow a bit because of the holidays so here is an old French hand-colored photo card. Merry picture taking to all...and to all a good night.

Milt Hinton-Bassist and Photographer

There is a book entitled Bass Line that is very important work. It is by bassist Milt Hinton who traveled the world with different bands and documented every step. Many jazz photographs are by photographers that are not musicians but Milt's point of view is unique. Behind the scenes and life as a black musician from Mississippi during segregation make his work a valuable document.

Andrew in final 6

Our own Andrew Hall is in the final 6 photographers in a contest you can find here:

You can't vote for him...so he just needs to win on his own talent. Good luck Andrew!

Alvarez Blog

Another place to be inspired is Stephen Alvarez's blog. He is always keeping up on things and I take a look when I can to see what he's up to.

One in 8 Million

Today was the last day of school for the Intro to Digital class. The final project was to present 20 photos as a documentary photo essay. This link to the NYTimes was one of my examples. This work is so good and I was hoping students would find some inspiration here.

Once upon a time in a blog

Hi everyone,
This is the first post to our photography blog. It has been on our minds for a while to start one and I thought now was the time. Charles had mentioned how there are things we work on at UAH that are not always available online. It can be anything from formulas for processing film to finding the right equipment for classes.
I want to begin with one of my favorite blogs from photographer David Alan Harvey.
Hope this works...
